ARISAN 2 - It’s a highly entertaining movie, although not many moments actually stayed with you afterwards. It shows off the beautiful Gili Islands in Lombok, and it’s a pretty darn accurate snapshot of Jakarta’s socialites’ lifestyle.
It seems to go all out in exposing the “alternative” lifestyles of the rich and famous all in the span of 100 minutes. It’s good and will bring you laughs, but don’t expect real empathy for any of the characters because even at the end of the movie, you don’t get to know them.
Just like going to an arisan, where you meet a lot of people and hear a lot of updates, and the latest of who’s on what, or rather who’s doing who, all you get is a scramble of random information. However, Gili is beautiful and Rio Dewanto is amusing as the young gay lover simply because we’ve never seen him in that kind of role before.
If Indonesian cinema continues to produce this kind of film, there will definitely be bums on seats.
